Healthy soils are fundamental to the production of healthy cattle. Over the past 10 years, we have implemented organic practices including turkey manure and Beaulieu R.U.M. to replace chemical soil fertilizers and have had great success with improved pasture productivity. This has resulted in better water absorption and nutrient retention leading to improvements in livestock results.
Erosion has been managed with tree and water course protection. We have fenced off remnant vegetation and regenerated some of these areas, also protecting existing native forest areas and leaving a corridor for indigenous wildlife. Watercourses and establish wetlands which have also been fenced off have benefited the native swans and other bird species.
Tree lanes have been established and existing, long established trees have also been protected with generous areas of fencing, allowing livestock the shelter and protection required without damage to the trees root zones.
